ABOUT KMD PHYSIO

Human • Horse • Hound Physiotherapy

I’m Katy, a Chartered Physiotherapist and Veterinary Physiotherapist, specialising in the assessment and rehabilitation of humans, horses, and dogs across Cumbria and the South Lakes. My work is grounded in evidence‑based practice, calm communication, and a deep respect for the individuality of every patient — whether two‑legged or four.

Physiotherapy, for me, is about restoring movement, confidence, and comfort. I believe in taking the time to listen, understand, and work collaboratively so that every treatment plan feels achievable, meaningful, and tailored to the goals of the person or animal in front of me.

My Journey

My physiotherapy journey began in human healthcare, working across both the NHS and private sector with adults and paediatrics. These early years gave me a strong foundation in clinical reasoning, rehabilitation, and functional movement — and confirmed what I loved most: helping people improve, grow in confidence, and achieve the goals that matter to them.

Alongside this, I’ve always been deeply involved in the equestrian and canine worlds. As a committed horse owner and rider, and with three dogs whom I train, work, and compete with regularly, I’ve developed a rich, practical understanding of behaviour, training principles, and performance demands. This lived experience has shaped how I approach equine and canine rehabilitation, giving me insight into what these animals need to feel confident, comfortable, and capable.

Over time, I realised my ultimate career aim was to bring together my passion for supporting people with my lifelong love of animals. That path led me to pursue veterinary physiotherapy, completing my MSc at Hartpury and developing specialist skills in equine and canine assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation.

Working across species has shaped my practice in a unique and rewarding way. Humans, horses, and dogs may move differently, but the principles of effective rehabilitation remain the same: clarity, compassion, and evidence‑based care. I’m passionate about helping clients understand what’s happening in the body — and how small, consistent changes can create meaningful, long‑term improvements in movement, comfort, and wellbeing.

My Approach

Physiotherapy should feel supportive, not overwhelming. My approach is built around:

“Movement is at the heart of every being — human, horse, and hound. My role is to restore it with compassion, clarity, and evidence‑based care.”
